Get Lit! 2017 Author Inspired Food & Drink Partners

Monday, April 17th, 3-6 p.m.

Talented chef and restaurant owner Adam Hegsted has used our festival authors as inspiration to create special appetizers and drinks that will be offered throughout the week, and during this unique happy hour event. One dollar from every inspired special sold will be donated to Get Lit! Programs.

Monday’s happy hour specials include:

1. Meghan Daum, My Misspent Youth and The Unspeakable. Daum will be reading with Justin Torres on Sunday, April 23. Tickets can be purchased here.

Appetizer- Unspeakable Deviled Eggs. Deep fried deviled eggs with smoked egg yolk, sourdough aioli and bacon jam.

Cocktail- Misspent Youth. Absinthe, orgeat, froth and a breathe of orange flower water.

  • 3 tablespoons (1 1/2 ounces) absinthe
  • 1 tablespoon (1/2 ounce) orgeat
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 dash orange flower water
  • 2 ounces half-and-half
  • 1/2 cup crushed ice

2. Emily Ruskovich, Idaho. Ruskovich will be reading with Jamaal May on Friday, April 21. Tickets can be purchased here.

Appetizer- Roasted Potato-Chip Salad. smash fried red potatoes, goat cheese, pinenuts, arugula and honey mustard topped with warm potato chips and sea salt.

Drink-Mountain Huckleberry- Idaho huckleberry vodka, rosemary, huckleberries, beet juice.

3. Leyna Krow, I’m Fine, But You Appear to be Sinking. Krow will be reading on Sunday, April 23 as part of the We All Lived Here: An EWU MFA Alumni Reading and Reception.

Appetizer- Deep Dark Calamari- Squid ink fried calamari and vegetables with squid ink aioli, onion ash and seaweed.

Cocktail-Boston Cream Pie- Irish Cream, Pie Crust Vodka, Hazelnut and Chocolate Bitters

  • 1 oz. Bailey’s Irish cream
  • 1 oz. Vodka infused with pie crust and vanilla bean (strained)
  • 1 oz. Frangelico
  • Splash of chocolate liquer
  • dash chocolate bitters
  • Cocoa powder and pie crust for dusting class.

Wandering Table will be inspired by Meghan Daum who is the author of My Misspent Youth and The Unspeakable. Meghan Daum will be reading with Justin Torres on Sunday, April 23rd. You can purchase tickets here.

Yards Bruncheon will feature poet Jamaal May. May will be reading with Emily Ruskovich on Friday, April 21. You can purchase tickets to that event here. He will also be reading at the Poetry Salon held later that night at Brooklyn Deli.  He will also host a workshop on Saturday, April 22. You can purchase tickets here.

Entree- God of Wood Fritatta. Kale and red oak lettuce, cotija, roasted peppers and avocado. Topped with fresh avocado, cotija cheese and cilantro.

Drink- Spicy Lemonade-Jalapeno slices, ginger syrup, fresh lemonade

Gilded Unicorn will feature Jason Rekulak who is the author of The Impossible Fortress. Rekulak will be reading at Auntie’s Bookstore on Saturday, April 22nd with Alexandra Teague. He will also host a workshop with her earlier that day and tickets for that workshop can be purchased here.

Appetizer- Tuna Helper. Sweet pea salad with seared bacon cured tuna, cheddar, crispy noodles and sunflower seed aioli.

Cocktail- Vanna White- Sprite, Gin, Lime Juice and Cucumber.

  • 3 oz Sprite
  • 2 oz Gin
  • 1 oz Lime Juice
  • 3 slices Cucumber

“The Birds and Bees”:

A split of Prosecco, 1 oz. St. Germaine, orange zest

Inspired by Chris Howell’s latest collection of poems, Love’s Last Number. Chris will be reading with Nance Van Winckel and Albert Goldbarth on Thursday, April 20. Tickets can be purchased here.

 

“SP&B”- Sweet, pink and boozy:

1 oz. Makers Mark, 1/2 oz. cherry syrup, top with 7-up, garnish with marinated Queen Anne cherry.

Inspired by Rachel Toor’s piece, The Old Town, which you can read here. Rachel will be reading at the Northwest Boulevard Reading on EWU’s Cheney campus on Friday, April 21 and featured during The MFA at EWU: A Faculty Discussion on Sunday, April 23.

You can catch Sam and Kate at Pie & Whiskey on Thursday, April 20. Doors at 9:00, event at 9:30. $5 cash at the door gets you a slice of pie and a shot of Dry Fly Whiskey.
